The Minister for Economic Affairs, Stephanie Lose, will participate in the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group this week, as well as the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ Meetings in Washington D.C.
The Minister represents the Nordic-Baltic countries – Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden – in the IMF’s ministerial committee, the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC). In the context of the G20, the minister participates as a representative of the EU member states, alongside representatives from the European Commission and the European Central Bank.
The Nordic-Baltic countries work closely together in the IMF to promote an open global economy and rules-based cooperation that supports financial stability and sustainable economic growth. In Washington, the Minister will present the Nordic-Baltic views on the global economic outlook, financial stability, and support for Ukraine. The Nordic-Baltic countries will also meet with Ukraine at ministerial level to discuss continued support, which they will further advance in discussions within the IMF.
Minister for Economic Affairs Stephanie Lose says:
“The world is changing rapidly, and I look forward to important discussions with my international colleagues in Washington — both in the IMF, where almost every country in the world is represented, and at the G20 meetings of the world’s largest economies, where I represent the EU under the current Danish EU Presidency.
In a time marked by geopolitical tensions, wars, and conflicts, it is essential that we maintain international cooperation to ensure open and stable economies as a driving force for growth, prosperity, and peace.
I will emphasize continued economic support for Ukraine in its fight for freedom against Russia’s brutal aggression. Within the EU, the Danish Presidency is working to secure new EU financial resources for Ukraine — funds that will form the core of a strengthened IMF support programme for the country. Europe must continue to take the lead in supporting Ukraine, while ensuring that this support is as broadly anchored in the international community as possible.”
In addition to the IMF and G20 meetings, the Minister will also meet with members of the United States Congress to discuss global economic issues, including cooperation between the EU and the United States.
